I've been meaning to get on here and write about the fantastic time we had last weekend, but never got around to it. Humor me while I give you a quick update before this week's TT list:
I headed into the weekend feeling a little overwhelmed with our to-do list. I want to get as much baby preparation done as possible before the holidays because I know how chaotic that time of year can be and I figure I won't feel much like it come January. So that basically leaves the next seven weeks to check off some big items, and of course David is traveling like crazy right now. But, the good news is that with with our powers combined, he and I are quite the accomplishing force. We began the weekend with zero clue on what we wanted nursery-wise and ended it having ordered furniture and purchased bedding. (More details to come.) We also narrowed down our name list to two choices though there's no way I'm telling until we're certain. Just be thankful we're going to announce it before he's born this time. Quite a productive weekend, huh? AND, on top of all of that, he and I had an awesome date night on Friday night. We took a long walk, visited a local restaurant we'd never been to before, and then came home and had a fire in our fire pit. We snuggled close and roasted marshmallows for s'mores. It was nauseatingly romantic. :)
SO, I'm most definitely thankful for last weekend. And you would think such an awesome time would have carried me through his next business trip this week. I gotta confess, though, that it didn't. I'm not sure why, but it's been a really tough few days! Being pregnant, having a toddler, and dealing with back-to-back single mommy weeks took its toll. Especially when I was going to bed on west coast time (he was in CA) but getting up on east coast time. I finally broke down on the phone with him last night. It was really late and I can't remember all of what was said, but the gist of it was mommy guilt and exhaustion. I remember sobbing something about not having given her a green vegetable in five days and losing my temper over potty training to which he calmly replied, "You're doing the best you can. You just gotta keep her alive." This is pretty much our motto when he's traveling, and it was good of him to remind me.
SO, God brought us through, David just got home, and he'll be here all next week. Of course, he does have customers in so there may be some late nights. Just pray I don't snap and show up at one of his customer dinners to drop AJ off.
Here is the list of things I'm thankful for this week:
1. A two year old's version of hide-and-go-seek. Audrey hides in plain view, can hardly wait until I'm finished counting to ten, and then jumps out in front of me while cracking up. I love it.
2. Rocky road ice cream. And 3 more weeks before my next weight check at the doctor's office.
3. Temperatures that make it comfortable to be in long sleeves and a t-shirt. My favorite!
4. Humidifiers. All of us have had a constant nighttime cough for almost two weeks. I finally broke out the humidifier for Audrey's room and I don't think I've heard anything from her since. I wish I'd done that sooner.
5. If you're a new blog reader, you may not know that the #5 item on my Thankful Thursday list is always a song. This is because A) I'm grateful for music and B) It allows me to share my tastes with you and chronicle them for my kids, who I hope will some day read these random ramblings. My pick this week is "Shake Heaven" by Montell Jordan. You may remember him from his huge hit in the 90s, "This is How We Do It." He recently left his R&B career and is now the worship pastor at Victory World Church. He released this song a few months ago. It kept my spirit and motivation up several times this week!

Weekend Review
Monday, January 4, 2010
I'm pretty sure it's time for a weekend review, at least. It's hard for me to remember what day it is because of David's insane work schedule lately. His office was closed Friday, but he still had to work Friday night. He worked all day Saturday, Sunday night until about 1am, and got up this morning to start another crazy week. Please continue to pray that it lets up soon. Playing single mommy is wearing on me, and the workload is burning him out. It's been a really tough few weeks and we're ready for some relief.
Griping aside, we had a good weekend. On Friday we gave Audrey her first baby food - sweet potatoes. "They" recommend vegetables first so the baby doesn't get a sweet tooth. Our pediatrician says this is really a bunch of bunk, because breast milk is sweet. We decided that sweet potatoes would be a happy middle ground. She ate three or four bites like a champ and then all of a sudden decided she didn't care for them much. I guess her taste buds took awhile to catch up! Her face displayed her disdain for them and we captured it all on video and in pics, which I'll get around to updating again one day.
On Saturday, I got it in my head that the Christmas stuff needed to come down immediately. I dread this part every year and ask myself why I need so many holiday decorations. Then when I'm pulling them out the next season and loving every minute of it, I remember. Anyway, with David at work, I climbed into the attic and hauled down all the empty boxes and began packing things away during Audrey's nap time. Having not slept well the night before and since I did an intense workout that morning, I was regretting my decision pretty badly by mid-afternoon. But, at that point, I was committed. (Or maybe I needed to be committed.) I got most of it finished and it's now sitting in our spare bedroom waiting to be put back in the attic. I'm crazy, but I'm not crazy enough to lift those heavy boxes back up without his help! Although, I bet if I threw my back out, he'd have to take off work...Hmmm...
Anyway, Sunday was a little bit of a break. David's parents came over and watched Audrey while we went out to lunch. Afterward, we ran to Wal-Mart. Now I need to confess that I had previously made a New Year's resolution to quit shopping at Wal-Mart. You're thinking "Wow. Way to take a stand against the evil empire that imports 80% of its stuff from China and contributes to the insane materialism of our country." That too. But selfishly, I just can't stand the headache. The money saved is rarely worth the hassle, long lines, poor customer service, and shady clientele. I frequently find that I become an angry and (more) impatient person there, and it's better to avoid it if possible. However, I have really been wanting a dumbbell weight rack and figured that short of driving across town to a sporting goods store, they were our only option. They had just what we were looking for. Dang you Wal-Mart and your stupid tendency to stock everything under the sun. Maybe I'll just try to limit my visitations to once every couple of months.
SO, we came home after a brief break and spent a couple of hours hanging out before David had to go back to work. That night, after Audrey went to bed, I watched Julie & Julia. It was a very cute movie that almost made me want to learn to cook. Almost. (Earlier in the week, I watched The Proposal. That's the one good thing about when David works late or is out of town - I get to catch up on my chick flicks! Although I do stay up way too late watching them.)
And that was our weekend. Hopefully we can spend all of this next one with David. Hope your new year is off to a good start! More updates (and hopefully some less boring and more insightful posts) soon!

Weekend Review
Monday, December 7, 2009
What an amazing weekend! On Saturday my parents, grandmother, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew came out for a visit. We had a great time hanging out and catching up. My nephew Carson was very entertained by our Christmas tree and ornaments (I did remember to hang the less fragile and semi-harmless ones towards the bottom) and we were very entertained by him. He is such a ball of energy, but will stop just long enough to sit in someone's lap while they read a book. He is learning to jump and loves to jibber-jabber and has the most gorgeous blond hair. Man, we make some cute kids in my family.
Watching everyone pass Audrey around was so precious. They got such a kick out of every grin and noise she makes...which happened to be a lot on Saturday. She loved the attention and napped long and hard that afternoon! That evening, I snuck away for an hour by myself and got a pedicure. Yay for Mommy time-outs, foot massages, and trashy celebrity magazines!
On Sunday, David and I had an amazing date. His parents came over and kept Audrey while we spent five hours by ourselves (new record)! It started with brunch and a little Christmas shopping. Then we went downtown to the Fox Theater and saw the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. It was a wonderful show and I was so impressed with the flawlessness of the performances. Those Rockettes are in amazing shape (I tried not to spend the entire time coveting their legs) and I can't imagine the hours and hours of rehearsal and training that go into that. The grand finale was a live nativity and it was powerfully beautiful.
After the show, we grabbed some lunch/dinner at Five Guys (What's that you say? My legs will never look like a Rockette's if I eat like that?! Honey, these thunder thighs ain't never gonna be close anyway.) We got home and I scooped up Audrey, who seemed like she barely noticed we were gone. I, on the other hand, had missed her terribly. But of course I'm glad we went. It was so special to spend the time with David doing something we don't normally do and it definitely got us in the Christmas spirit. We spent the rest of the day relaxing just the three of us.
So, this weekend had it all: time with family, time alone, time with just us. We are so looking forward to Christmas when we get to see everyone again (and David takes some time off!)
I'll close with this video of Audrey laughing just in case you have a case of the Mondays. I dare you to watch this thing without smiling. Have a wonderful week!

Weekend Review
Monday, August 24, 2009
I’ve been working on a post for several days now, but have decided to postpone (ha, get it?!) publishing it for a little longer. SO, here is a little weekend review to tide you over:
On Saturday Audrey took some great naps for us, so we got a lot done. I cleaned the entire upstairs for the first time in two months (don’t worry – it’s been cleaned since then thanks to the maid service my in-laws treated us to!) In fact, the last time I cleaned it that well was the night/day I was in labor! To be honest, I enjoyed doing it myself again. I have no doubt that insanity has passed, though, and the next time it’s due I’ll dread it as usual. David got some yard work done and then we went out for a stroll around the park, some ice cream, and a trip to the library. We came home and then went back out to Publix, where, might I add, shopping is indeed a pleasure. I know I save more at Kroger, but I do so prefer Publix. Kind of similar to how Target is better than Wal-Mart even if it’s slightly more expensive. Somehow not running into barefoot screaming children around every corner makes the experience more enjoyable. (“Seriously, WHERE are your parents and WHY aren’t they parenting you?!”)
On Sunday we went to church for the first time in ages. We took Audrey with us to our small group and then left afterwards. The doctor recommended and we wholeheartedly agreed to wait until she was at least eight weeks old before putting her in a public nursery. Even though she just turned nine weeks on Saturday, she has not yet gotten her first round of immunizations. She’ll get those this week, which I know will require a blog update! Even after those, it’ll probably be another couple of weeks before I can bring myself to leave her. Some women can handle dropping their babies off at a much younger age, but I am not one of them. I do not judge that decision, and I hope that people don’t judge ours (though I really don’t care to be honest. Trying not to comparison-parent!) As long as she makes it in there before she is old enough for youth group, I’ll consider it a success.
Who knows when we’ll make it to a service again. She typically eats between 11:00 and 11:30 (our service starts at 11) and she usually takes 30 minutes to eat plus the time it takes me to get myself situated before and after. Throw in a diaper change and it’s easily a 45 minute ordeal. So, instead of going to the service for 15 minutes, we’re likely just going to make it to small group for awhile. And yes, I could pump and send her with a bottle. But do you want to know the dirty little secret that few people tell you when you’re pregnant? Even if you leave them with a bottle, you still have to pump relatively close to the time the baby eats. Otherwise, you can easily screw up your milk supply. At least, this is the case for me because I don’t exclusively pump. And, because I do it so infrequently, it takes me around twenty minutes to get the amount needed. Add the time it takes to clean and put away bottles and you’re up to about thirty minutes. Bottom line: It’s really not any more convenient nor does it save any time. It may extend my/our outings by about thirty minutes and allow David/others to take part in feeding her, but those are the only pros I’ve discovered so far.
Anyway, after we got home and fed Audrey, David’s parents came over and watched her while he and I went out for a little while. We went to lunch at O’Charley’s, FedEx Office (which I cannot quit calling Kinko’s) to pick up something David dropped off for work, Sam’s Club, and then walked enough of a lap around the park to get to a swing and sit down. We talked and enjoyed the cool(er) temps and breeze before heading back home to Audrey and, you guessed it, the dadgum pump.
Sunday night we managed to bathe Audrey, cook dinner, do laundry, and straighten up the downstairs before calling it quits and crashing in front of the TV after we put her down at 9:30. My hope is to finish cleaning the downstairs this afternoon so I can have the whole house clean at once, but we’ll see how well she naps/tolerates the Bjorn carrier while I sweep and vacuum!
I hope y’all have a good week! Check back for an update after the dreaded immunizations on Wednesday. And be sure to look at the new pictures in our gallery, including her two month perspective shots. You'll see that I also created an album just for those monthly perspective pictures so you can easily compare and see how quickly our baby girl is growing. Enjoy!

Weekend Review
Monday, July 27, 2009
We had a wonderful weekend! On Saturday David watched Audrey while I went out for an entire three hours by myself! (It almost made up for the two nights before that of his having to work late.) I did a little clothes shopping in a size I wish I didn't have to buy, but at least I have a few things that fit for the moment and a couple of pairs of non-elastic pants. I got my hair cut and only ran one responsible errand. By the end of my break I missed Audrey terribly and broke more than one speed limit getting back to the house. When I got home we hung out for a little while, had family naptime, and then tried a new Mexican restaurant for dinner.
Audrey had a record breaking night of sleep on Saturday night, which was the cherry on top of a great day. I fed her at 10:30pm and she slept until 4:00am. After I fed her then, she slept until 8:30am. That's ONE nighttime feeding!!! I thought we had turned a corner, but she went right back to her previous 10:30pm, 3ish, 6ish, 8:30am feeding schedule the next night. We'll get there at some point!
On Sunday we went for a walk at the new park that just opened near our house. I walked the farthest and fastest I have to date and it felt wonderful! I'm waiting until after my 6-week postpartum check-up to begin any official exercise, but I at least feel like it's doable. The way my back (and other various parts) were hurting a few weeks ago, I didn't know if I'd ever feel up to working out again!
We stopped by the grocery store on the way home and then spent the rest of the day in our typical feeding, activity time, naptime cycle with a little laundry, bill paying, and baby bathtime thrown in.
Not unbelievably exciting, but it was a good weekend! Hope you enjoyed yours as well!
